Nairobi Business community' dismisses KEPSA, vows to counter NASA demos

The group dubbed Nairobi Business Community has scoffed at the "elite" Kenya Private Sector Alliance for failing to recognise them.
Chairperson Wilfred Kamau said remarks by KEPSA are reckless and deserve condemnation, and vowed to counter NASA protests slated for Friday.
The alliance disowned the business community after it declared that it would counter the protests to protect property against looting and damage.
Kamau termed KEPSA an elitist group that does not understand "what the ordinary businessman goes through [during protests] and has no moral authority on their behalf".
"We are the ones who lose properties, bear the brunt of violence and endure endless suffocation of teargas due to those confrontations unlike the club members KEPSA who enjoy the comfort of their offices in high-end Upper Hill and Westlands areas," Kamau said on Thursday.
He said they represent small-scale traders and self-employed people, a majority of them from the Kikuyu community.
"It is shameful for those elites not to recognise that we are the ones who have employed them as we are the ones who bank with their banks, insure lives and property with them, pay taxes as they do. In short they are managers we have employed."
The group had on Sunday said it will mobilise "traders" from Nakuru, Murang'a, Thika, Limuru and other places to keep vigil and stop NASA supporters from disrupting "their" business, and defend the "unguarded" presidency of Uhuru Kenyatta.
Its members had confrontations with NASA supporters before police disperse them.
Kamau said traders were very happy with the success of their activities to prevent robbery, muggings, looting and interference with businesses.
"We were successful on Monday and we will be there are again tomorrow [Friday]. Our presence will be felt even if you may not recognise us," Kamau said.
Member Joseph Githui said foreign forces must not be allowed to push their agenda on Kenyans.
"We fought in Mau Mau [for independence] and we will fight any attempts by foreigners to impose a presidency on us. We will fight to retain the presidency," he said.
