President Uhuru Kenyatta with his Deputy William Ruto at Laare market in Igembe North yesterday, Meru County during his re-run campaign rallies.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday accused NASA flagbearer Raila Odinga of seeking power “through the back door and bloodshed”.
“I thank you, Meru people, for voting [for] me. That Mzee thought we wouldn’t accept the Supreme Court ruling. He expected chaos and bloodshed to get a share of government,” he said in Laare market, Igembe North, during a rally.
“The same God and Kenyans who voted for us will declare the same by electing me on October 26.”
Uhuru urged Kenyans to live in peace regardless of their ethnic backgrounds and political affiliations.
He said his administration is committed to ending cattle rustling and banditry that has claimed several lives in Meru.
No one has the right to ambush someone and graze their animals in other people’s farm without their consent, Uhuru added.
“On the issue of insecurity, we sat down with your leaders and up to now we have deployed 100 Administration Police. About 200 Kenya Police Reservists have registered and soon 100 reservists will be given KPR rifles and deployed for patrol and protection of locals,” he said.
Uhuru thanked Meru leaders for uniting and showing that political competition does not have to lead to enmity. Uhuru said he will offer former Meru Governor Peter Munya a job to actualise his pledge to residents that he would work with whoever wins and reward the loser.
He said Jubilee is not a tribal party because it has a national outlook, as “it has representatives from each corner of the country”.
Deputy President William Ruto said Kenyans are tired of retrogressive politics of ‘kitendawili’ and urged voters to turn out in large numbers to elect the President.
“When Uhuru is planning for roads, stima connectivity, free maternity and other developments in the country, the tibim, tialala leader is planning for demonstrations,” he said.
Ruto said JP will defeat NASA by a margin of more than three million votes, instead of the 1.5 million difference of the August 8 presidential election nullified by the Supreme Court over irregularities and illegalities.
“Four hundred kilometres of roads are ongoing in Meru. One hundred thousand people have been connected to electricity. We have free maternity. We’ll ensure the pledge of free secondary school education is fulfilled. This is why I ask you to vote for Uhuru,” Ruto said.
Uhuru expressed sympathy for Gikomba traders, whose property was torched on Friday.
He called for a thorough probe to ascertain the cause of the fire so culprits are prosecuted.
